                TOPIC: Wireless Communication Trends

        Mr.
Roman Korczak is responsible for managing global software system
test efforts for 3GSM mobile products with Motorola. His current
responsibilities range from project definition and its realization
to product ship readiness assessment. While working with Motorola,
he also held management responsibilities in product testing, worldwide
software distribution services and development engineering. Prior
to joining Motorola he held positions in the fields of bioengineering
          and test automation.
Based on rich Motorola history in various telecommunication technologies
and solutions, Mr. Korczak will briefly discuss key wireless telecommunication
evolution milestones, recent advances and foreseeable industry
        trends.
Roman graduated from Technical University of Gdansk, Poland.
He has also received Master Certification in Management in a Changing
Environment from Benedictine University and Project Management
Professional (PMP) Certification from Project Management Institute.
He holds a US patent in the area of biomedical engineering.
A business meeting will precede the technical presentation. Coffee
and pastries will be served during the intermission.
SPECIAL INVITATION for Polish engineers and technicians who recently
        came to Chicago.

WASHINGTON AWARD: The Washington Award Banquet was held on February
24, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago. Six
members of our group attended the Banquet. This year this prestigious
engineering award was presented to Professor Henry Petroski. Professor
Petroski has Polish ancestry. His grandfather left Poland at the
end of the 19th Century. He worked in Pennsylvania coalmines.
In American press reports Professor Petroski has been called “the
poet laureate of technology”. It was a pleasant surprise
to us that in his keynote address Professor Petroski talked extensively
about Ralph Modjeski, presenting him as a role model for the young
students, winners of the Future City Competitions, Mathcounts
and the Bridge Building Contest. We should also add that Professor
Petroski thanked Dr. John Plachta for his input in the study of
Ralph Modjeski accomplishments. Professor Petroski presented the
students with an autographed copy of his books.

BUILDING FOR EXTREME EVENTS: Lessons Learned from Katrina. The
Structural Engineers Foundation will host a lecture on Hurricane
Katrina by Coulbourne, PE. Bill is with URS Corp. and is managing
the Mitigation Assessment Team for FEMA in Mississippi and Louisiana
following Hurricane Katrina. The title of his presentation is
“Building foe Extreme Events – Lessons Learned from
Katrina”. The lecture will present overview the structural
damage in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and address the question
raised by a lot of survivors, “would stronger building codes
have resulted in less damage?” Lecture will be given at
The Union League Club, 65 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL. On April
        4, 2006. Reception 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Program 6:30 p.m.

DUES: Only 30% of PAEA members paid their dues for 2005. Please
remember that organizing a meeting is connected with significant
expenses. Renting a room for example at our present location is
costing us over $200 for an evening. Additionally we have newsletter
printing, mailing and speaker gifts expenses. We are trying very
hard to provide an interesting and diversified program for our
meetings. We provide great opportunity for socializing, exchanging
of ideas, networking, and providing information on job opportunities.
We are supporting the E-week activities, paying dues for the membership
at the Illinois Engineering Council, occasionally assisting in
various other expenses. Additionally out of the dues we are receiving
we are assisting the scholarship program for engineering students
of Polish heritage. As you very well know, our dues are the lowest
of any professional engineering association in the Chicago land
area. All of the organizational, time-consuming efforts are provided
free of charge by the members of the administration. Please keep
this in mind and pay the dues at your next opportunity.
POLONIA TECHNICA from New York is informing us about a group
of students from the Warsaw Polytechnic in Poland that is coming
to United States for model airplane competition. This competition
will be held in Atlanta, Georgia. They are coming to Chicago on
April 18, 2006. Competition will be held from 21-23 of April.
On 28th of April they are flying back to Warsaw. They are asking
for financial help to cover their expenses in United States. Any
        donation will be greatly appreciated.
